The St. Mark’s Choir and the Art Commission are presenting a meditative service of Compline on Sunday evening, May 19th at 7:30 p.m. Among the many beautiful works of music will be new compositions by choir members Christa Tumlinson, Evan Blaché, and Ross Smith. Austin-based artist Mary Margaret Haze is collaborating to surround the congregation with images that reflect on the scriptures, prayers, and music. The choir will be joined by cellist Sophie Mathieu, violist Iona Olive, and professional singers from around the Austin area.

Music at St. Mark’s

Music is a vital part of the spiritual life we share together at St. Mark’s. We sing and hear music from all times and places—music written centuries ago and by living composers, music in the Anglican tradition and music from other cultures and in other styles, music that connects us to the faith journeys of God’s people throughout history.

If you are interested in participating in our music ministry, please contact Mark or call the church office. You are always invited to stop by the choir loft after the Sunday service to find out more information about the ways you can get involved in the music ministry!

The Music Ministry is supported in part by the Eric Panter Memorial Fund for Music, established to honor the memory of choir member, bass/tenor section leader, soloist, youth group leader, committed church member, stalwart volunteer, and friend to all, Eric Panter (1986-2022). You can support music and all of the ministries of St. Mark’s by making your pledged gift or special donation here.

Ways You Can Get Involved

The Adult Choir sings choral music in a variety of styles and genres. Our repertoire includes selections from the classical, modern, folk, spiritual, and gospel styles. The Adult Choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. during the school year. Membership in the Adult Choir is open to anyone high school or older. We are a group of fun and dedicated individuals, with varying levels of choral experience, who share a love for music. We invite you to join us, there are no auditions! Send Mark an email if you would like to sing with us!

The St. Mark’s Choristers are a group of kids who enjoy singing, learning about music, playing games, and having lots of fun! By participating in Choristers, children develop musical skills, strengthen their faith, and build friendships within the church. All children in grades K through 5th are welcome! Choristers rehearse on Wednesdays from 6:00 – 6:45 p.m. in the Common Room. Send Mark an email for more information. Parents who would like their children to attend Choristers should fill out the 2023-24 Registration & Release Form.
