St. Mark’s Youth

Youth are a valuable part of our St. Mark’s community! We believe youth thrive when they are welcomed, embraced for who they are, and empowered to serve according to their God-given gifts. Read on for more info on our growing youth ministry!

Building Friendships

Once or twice a month we get together on Sunday afternoon to hang out. Usually we go off-site and do something fun like having lunch and talking about life and faith. No pressure, no expectations — just God’s goodness shared in community!

We’d love to have you join us! Grades 6-12 welcome.

Recent youth outings include:

  • Arcade games at Cidercade 🎮

  • Mini-golf at Peter Pan ⛳️

  • Broomball at the Pond Hockey Club 🧹

Contact Casey for the most up-to-date schedule of Sunday gatherings! casey@stmarksaustin.org.

Learning through Serving

Serving Outside the Church

For the 2023-24 school year, the youth group will endeavor to complete the traditional seven works of mercy, based on Jesus’ words in Matthew 25, which include: feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, clothing the naked, welcoming the stranger, visiting the sick, visiting those in prison, and burying the dead. We’ll be getting creative with a few of these! Join us and be transformed.

Serving Inside the Church

The following volunteer roles are open for youth to serve at St. Mark’s:

  • Acolyte - Assist in the 11:15 service as either a torch-bearer or crucifer.

  • Lector - Read a passage of scripture during one of our morning worship services.

  • Children’s Formation Classes - Alongside adult leaders, assist with children’s formation classes or help out in the nursery. (*Safeguarding training required)

Contact Casey to sign up for any of these service opportunities!

Growing in Faith

Confirmation

Confirmation class is a faith-building opportunity is typically reserved for high school students. It involves a commitment to learn, serve, and be a part of a community, as well as a willingness to explore going through with the rite of Confirmation at the next Bishop’s visit. Contact Casey to receive info on the next Confirmation cohort.

Pilgrimage

A pilgrimage is an opportunity to encounter God through traveling to sacred places alongside fellow pilgrims seeking spiritual renewal. St. Mark’s desires to give each youth the opportunity to go on one pilgrimage trip during their high school years. In the summer of 2023, six pilgrims from St. Mark’s went to England and Scotland! Stay tuned for an announcement on our next pilgrimage trip.
